Happy Holidays!
The holidays are here. Can you believe it? If it is true that time flies when you’re having fun, then we are having a ball! It is impossible to think that we have completed almost one-half of the 2009-2010 IAAP fiscal year. Are we experiencing the POWER OF COMMITMENT? We hope that you enjoyed Thanksgiving, counted your blessings, and remembered those less fortunate. Looking ahead, we hope that Christmas 2009 and the New Year 2010 will be a time of peace and joy for all. Once again, your A-O Division Officers have created A VERY SPECIAL WISH for you, so turn up the volume and enjoy.
Strategic Planning and Communication
· Your A-O Division Officers met via conference call in mid-October to review the Division Strategic Plan and determine where we might refine it. The only significant change is with the schedule for publishing these Member Messages. We have now committed to publishing them six times during the fiscal year with the timing of same to be at the discretion of the Division Officers. In the past, we tried to do them monthly. We have posted the revised Strategic Plan on the Division Website in the Division Documents Section under For A-O Members.
Membership Report
· A-O Division had 311 members on November 30. We are down from 322 members when the fiscal year began.
· Congratulations to the Benton County and Will Rogers Chapters. Both have experienced net growth since June 30.
· The Bartlesville, American Fidelity, and Land Run Professionals Chapters have remained even.
· IAAP Headquarters renumbered all the Oklahoma Chapters last year. We still do not have access to online membership information for them so are, therefore, dependent on that reaching us by snail mail. Experiencing this delay has certainly made our job more difficult. Your A-O Division Officers have always tried to be proactive by reminding our members when it is time to renew and thanking them when they have done so. Nonetheless, it is apparent that the members and chapters in A-O Division continue to work hard to recruit new members and retain present members even with this obstacle. Thank you for your efforts.
Recruit-Recruit-Recruit
· We want to welcome the 25 new members to A-O Division shown below. They have joined from July 1 through November 30, 2009. We welcome YOU to A-O Division! Please contact any one of your Division Officers (names and email addresses shown at the end of this message) with any questions or comments. We look forward to meeting each one of you.
· We also want to recognize the members who recruited them. As you will see, the table does not show a recruiter for every new member. Any time you hand a membership application to a prospect, please be sure to complete the Recruiter Section with your name. Recruiting new members is just one of the ways to earn points as a Member of Excellence (at both the International and the Division level). Furthermore, A-O Division will present special awards to our top recruiters at the Annual Meeting next June.

Member Testimonials
· We want to hear from members in A-O as to why you joined IAAP and why you continue to renew your membership. We would like to post these testimonials in a special section on our website and share them in future Member Messages. We have created a Response Form to allow you do to just that on the Division website in the section For A-O Members.
Support the Retirement Trust Foundation
· Historically, the month of November is RTF Month in IAAP so that we can inform our members how they can support the Retirement Trust Foundation. We take it to another level in A-O Division and call it Legacy Month, asking also that you support the Research & Education Foundation and the Student Chapter Programs. Treasurer Donna Nerio chairs our Legacy Committee and has information to assist our members and our chapters in learning about these important projects. Please contact her if you would like to use these articles and presentations throughout the year.
Survey Results from 2009 Education Leadership Conference
· We previously promised to provide you with a summary of the 2009 Education Conference Survey Responses by mid-October. We did not meet that deadline. However, we have now posted the Summary on the Division Website for you to review in the section For A-O Members-Education Conference.
· We have responded to some of the specific comments our members made and have posted those Survey Comment Responses on the website for you to review in-depth.
· We were pleased that 54.1% of attendees who responded to the survey indicated the Conference exceeded their expectations, and 43.2% indicated it met their expectations. Our goal is always to plan an event that will please everybody, but we also know, realistically, that is rarely possible.
· There were many comments about the size (or lack thereof) of the meeting room reserved for this event, so we felt it important to share with our members some of the obstacles your Division Officers had to overcome in scheduling this event. We responded to some of the criticisms regarding the meeting room only so our members can attempt to understand, from our perspective, some of the things that factor into the decisions made by your A-O Division Officers.
· We hope you will take the time to read the Survey Response Summary and the Survey Comment Responses. We really appreciate that our members are willing to share feedback with us, and we want you to know that we do read all comments and appreciate all suggestions.
Pathways to Excellence
· If you are committed to becoming a Member of Excellence this year at the International level, you can download the Member of Excellence Commitment Form from the Web Community, sign it, and keep it in your file. It is available on the International Website under Member Resources-Pathways to Excellence.
· If you are committed to becoming a Member of Excellence this year at the Division level, we hope you are answering our Question of the Month. That’s one way to earn a checkmark. The question is available under For A-O Members-Question of the Month on the A-O Division website.
· Remember that we have issued the challenge to see whether Arkansas OR Oklahoma can achieve the greatest percentage of participation in the Division’s Member of Excellence Program. Bragging rights at Annual Meeting are on the line.
International News
· You need to make regular visits to the International Web Community (http://community.iaap-hq.org/). They have redesigned the Home Page to feature the latest news and postings at a glance, and it seems to be quite effective. In fact, you will currently find links there to all of the following information.
o Nominations for International Officer Candidates for 2010-2011 are now open. The deadline for submitting a nomination is January 15, 2010.
o Applications for appointment to the International Bylaws and Standing Rules Committee, Committee on Nominations, or Retirement Trust Foundation Committee for 2010-2011 are now available. The deadline for submitting applications by email is February 1, 2010.
o Proposed amendments to the International Bylaws and Standing Rules for 2010 are due by February 1, 2010.

Division News
· We were saddened to learn of the death of Oklahoma City Chapter member Virginia Morozuk, who died peacefully at Bellevue Nursing Center on November 17, 2009 at the age of 88. She joined IAAP (NSA/PSI) in June 1973. Virginia suffered a stroke in 1991 that paralyzed her left side. She maintained her membership status even though she was not physically able to remain active. Her passion and enthusiasm for our organization was an inspiration to those who knew her. We introduced Virginia to those of you who attended the 2005 A-O Division Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City when we honored her during lunch at the Petroleum Club that weekend. We will miss her. Most likely, she is already conspiring with other members of IAAP’s Omega Chapter to see what interesting adventures they can pursue.
· We met with employees of the Chickasaw Nation in Ada, OK on October 27, 2009 to tell them about IAAP and discuss the possibility of chartering a new chapter in the area. Those attending to meet and provide information to the ten in attendance were President Bryan, President Elect Cook, Board Assistant Williams, and Janet Griebel CPS CTM from the Land Run Professionals Chapter in Stillwater. Janet had first made contact with the Chickasaw employees when she was A-O Division Vice President and Membership chair in 2008-2009. Although a new chapter is not yet in the works, we have already gained two new Division Members at Large from this contact. We have posted a photo and other information on the Division Website under For A-O Members-News-New Chapter Building.
2010 A-O Division Annual Meeting
· The Oklahoma City Chapter will host the 2010 A-O Division Annual Meeting at the Skirvin Hilton in downtown Oklahoma City on June 25-27, 2010. We hope you are making plans to attend. You can learn all about it on the Division website by clicking on For A-O Members, then Annual Meetings. Contact Meeting Coordinator Teresa Flurry with any specific questions.
2010 International Education Forum and Annual Meeting
· Check out the latest registration information for the 2010 EFAM in Boston, MA next July. The special discount (prepaid registration and hotel room) will be available until December 15, 2009.
2010 International Spring Conference
· Registration is now open for the 2010 Spring Conference (formerly called Professional Education Conference) that IAAP will host March 8-10, 2010 in Reno, NV.
The Gift of IAAP Membership
· When you read the November issue of IAAP Connections, you will notice the great idea to give THE GIFT OF IAAP MEMBERSHIP to another administrative professional who would benefit from membership in our remarkable association. You can give the gift as a “new” membership to someone who does not yet belong. You can give the gift also as a membership renewal for a current member who might be enduring financial difficulties right now. What a wonderful idea. The explanation and the forms are available in the newsletter article. You can give the gift anonymously or with full disclosure.
In Closing
· We hope this Member Message has been informative and useful to you. Please remember we are here to serve YOU, and we welcome your feedback.
